OBLIQUE INTERNATIONAL is a Rotterdam based artist collective operating within the public sphere.
Parallel to our individual practices as visual artists and under the umbrella of OBLIQUE INTERNATIONAL, we organize long-term projects communicated through film screenings, workshops, talks/lectures, performances and collective gatherings.
On the core of our methodology lies the desire to approach specific contemporary issues through activities where 'doing' is the priority. In other words, we seek to promote activities where the audience is invited to “join their skills in community”, as Richard Sennett puts it. By re-enacting lively social spaces such as the ‘workshop’, the ‘kitchen’ or the ‘garden’, where the exchange of the most plural forms of knowledge is central, we seek to generate alternative forms for discussing current social, cultural and economic issues.
OBLIQUE INTERNATIONAL has no permanent office, gallery nor museum shop, but we do have a folding desk, two chairs, a cactus plant and a savings pig.
